Throughout her exemplary career, two-time James Beard award winner Toni Tipton-Martin has built a reputation as a champion of Black culinary stories, and her library of rare, original Black cookbooks is legendary. She expertly relates the historical and cultural context of the recipes she presents from these texts and continues the work of rediscovery with her latest book, Juke Joints, Jazz Clubs, and Juice. This collection of cocktails spotlights the creativity, hospitality, and excellence of Black drinking culture, with classic and modern recipes inspired by formulas found in two centuries’ worth of Black cookbooks. Platform is honored to welcome Toni Tipton-Martin for a conversation with James Beard Foundation vice president of Community, Colleen Vincent. Beverages from the book will be served. Copies of Juke Joints, Jazz Clubs, and Juice will be available for purchase and signing at the event.
