Thedra Cullar-Ledford: Uncanny Mother
Thedra Cullar-Ledford moved from Houston to the Hudson River Valley in August, just in time for her mother in Houston to need to be moved from her own apartment to a home. Dealing with two homes full of ‘precious’ things has been a tsunami of memories and difficult choices. Cullar-Ledford processes her childhood dolls into art so that she can finally throw them into the trash, but along the way they gain power as metaphors for difficult relationships with her parents, collectors, and others. The works in this show use photography to play with scale, bringing dolls into our world and vice-versa.
