Asase Yaa Cultural Arts Foundation's Children's Summer Arts Camp at PS 81
Back for its 18th year, Brooklyn-based Asase Yaa Cultural Arts Foundation, a nonprofit organization which has been offering youth an opportunity to learn, study and experience the history, movement and beauty of African Diaspora dance, music and culture at its highest level for over 20 years, has announced the return of their Children’s Summer Arts Camp. The only summer program of its kind, the six-week multidisciplinary performing arts program and day camp offers youth aged 4-13 a chance to contribute, create, and produce an original live production, which is then presented to a captive audience of family and friends as a finale to camp.

With this year’s theme, Exploring African Wildlife, campers will study and discover the wonders behind Africa's beautiful rainforests. Throughout the six-week program, youth will have the opportunity to learn all aspects of a live production including: writing, dancing, music, singing, drama, set building, costumes, choreography, staging, lighting, and sound.

"We're thrilled to be celebrating the 18th year of our Children's Summer Arts Camp,” said K. Osei Williams, Asase Yaa’s Executive Director. “Every year we eagerly anticipate producing exciting adventures and fun-filled activities for our youth attendees including dancing, drumming, arts and crafts, choir, acting, and much more. We always close camp with a theater production featuring our campers, and this year we're excited about our finale show, “Nana's Expedition," where they'll get a chance to explore and learn about Africa's rainforests."

Dedicated to creating a family atmosphere and environment for campers that encourages fun, creativity, encouragement, and education, during the six weeks, youth will participate in various games, activities, and development of the musical presentation in addition to embarking on field trips and celebrating African Flag Day.

Asase Yaa’s Children’s Summer Arts Camp will take place from July 1 – August 9, 2024, Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. for youth aged 4-13. To register for 2024, visit https://bit.ly/AYcamp24.
