In her own words, powerful civil rights leader Fannie Lou Hamer recounts the risks and challenges of organizing in the 1960’s Jim Crow South, amid extreme violence and political polarization that resonates today. The film traces her early years in rural Mississippi, fight for the right to vote, work in the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, opposition to the Vietnam war, and more.

Open discussion will follow the one-hour documentary.

Commentary by James Wright: African American historian, Civil Rights activist, DC37 Political Action Committee member.
