Sounds at Sunset
Enjoy FREE performances from local and international talent at the Sounds at Sunset concert series. Free music concerts take place on Fridays across the season at Pier 3 Plaza, and Pier 6 organized by Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy. Ease into the weekend with live music, and a beautiful sunset.
7pm Jan Bell & The Maybelles / 8pm Tyrone Cotton / 8:45pm Mike Younger
Tyrone Cotton plays folk, blues, soul, jazz and rock’n’roll. A fixture on the Louisville music scene for the past 30 years. His grandfather was a Baptist preacher, the Reverend Cleveland Roosevelt Williams, who sang with near-illegal charm, and was Cotton's first musical hero. Other influences include Smokey Robinson, Guy Clark, and Sam Cooke, although he draws his greatest inspiration from Bob Dylan, of whom Cotton says, “He’s the mountain!” - Americana UK.
Mike Younger is a seasoned recording artist and troubadour in the blues, folk, country, and rock n roll traditions who started out as a street musician. He was ‘discovered’ busking in New Orleans by country legend Rodney Crowell. His latest album ‘Burning the Big Top Down’ was made in Memphis. Younger’s song ‘ Poisoned Rivers’ was a rallying call during his activism at Standing Rock, and the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. Now based in Nashville TN, where he and his lady raise livestock on a small acreage and are beekeepers.
Jan Bell and her band The Maybelles are Independent Music Award winners. Three-part harmony, original country, and Americana on fiddle, banjo, guitar, and upright bass.
As Founder and Director of The Brooklyn Americana Music Festival now in its tenth year, Jan Bell brings a taste of the festival back to Pier 6, where her festival was Voted Best of Brooklyn (Empire State Awards) Cultural Event 2023.
On Friday, July 26, Brooklyn Americana Music curates a taste of their award-winning festival featuring internationally touring singer-songwriters with fiddles, banjos, and guitars. Celebrating 10 years, their annual festival curates a blend of internationally recognized and up-and-coming music artists.
