Singer, accordionist, musicologist and Warsaw-native Olga Mieleszczuk's (Polesye Project) special focus is music of the Ashkenazi Jewish tradition of Eastern Europe, especially the border areas of Poland (Galitzia, Polesye). A classically-trained musician, who divides her time between Warsaw and Tel Aviv, she has studied and performed wide-ranging genres from Hassidic music, to Yiddish songs, to folk music from the Jewish, Slavic and Balkan traditions. Her recording, Jewish Folksongs From the Shtetl, drawn from works of Mariam Nirenberg, a Jewish singer from Polesye who emigrated to Canada in 1932, was released earlier this year. Shofar Trio -- guitarist Raphael Roginski, saxophonist and bass clarinet player Mikolaj Trzaska and drummer Macio Moretti (who performed at Target - Free Thursdays for the 2012 Unsound Festival as half of LXMP) -- formed in 2006, joins traditional Jewish music with contemporary avant-jazz and rock. The Poland-based band released its debut album album in 2007 -- works based on the first compendium of Hassidic melodies from the Ukraine, Poland and Moldova compiled by early 20th-century Sovient musicologist Moshe Beregovsky. Over the past five years, the group has performed throughout Europe. The concert will feature the trio's innovative interpretations of nigunim, or religious songs (meant to induce a state of religious ecstasy), more dancelike freylakhs, and Jewish liturgical music.

And thanks to an influential cosign from fellow ATLien Gucci Mane, and a string of chart-topping singles, including the remix to "O Let's Do It," featuring Rick Ross and Diddy, and his latest hit, "Hard In Da Paint," it doesn't look like Waka Flocka is ready to quit rapping anytime soon.

Stone Cold Fox - Rockwood Music Hall II
February 23, 2013 - New York
Picture this: dreamy, folk-inspired tunes ignited by an aspiring musician's simple stroll in the city or while immersed in his own thoughts on a meaningless train ride. The concept seems almost too organic of an approach to songwriting to exist in the modern rock scene. Enter NYC's Stone Cold Fox - a group that echoes that exact raw musicianship and towers above anything you've ever heard because of it. The group's debut EP, The Young, is a thematic declaration of nostalgia that reflects on tales of loneliness and of leaving home too soon, an all-too-familiar chapter in life that's perfectly captured with its emotionally-charged lyrics. Stone Cold Fox certainly leaves no stone left unturned with this record, making full use of layered keyboards and synths while maintaining a dazzlingly organic sound to create instant ear candy. Fusing emotion with extravagance, Stone Cold Fox has an instant knack for spoiling listeners with a splash of sweet sing-alongs that will leave you humming along to its larger than life choruses and adding an extra hop in your step with its toe-tapping melodies. Vibes debuted on record in 1998 on a Knitting Factory album of the same name, and then followed with three more recordings, “With Drawn” (Knitting Factory Records - 1999), “Liebe Tunina” (Knitting Factory Records - 2000), and “Four” (Knitting Factory Records - 2001).
