ABOUT EUGENE SIROTKINE Eugene Sirotkine, a St. Petersburg-born conductor who debuted with the Latvian Philharmonic in St. Petersburg in 1989 and was an assistant conductor and assistant chorus master with the New York Metropolitan Opera from 1999 through 2008, is the director of the Hudson Valley Singers and the New York Metamorphoses Orchestra. Over the past two decades he has conducted orchestras and choruses across the globe, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic; the Symphony Orchestra UN Cuyo in Argentina, the National Symphony Orchestra in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; the Cape Philharmonic and the Cape Town Opera in South Africa, Cali Philharmonic in Columbia, and with the New York Metamorphoses Orchestra in collaboration with the Paul Taylor Dance Company at New York City Center and the Kennedy Center Orchestra at Kennedy Center, Washington, D.C. December 08, 2012 - New York 54 Below is pleased to enter the word of professional opera when acclaimed tenor Charles Castronovo takes to our stage for three special performances only. In fact, on December 1 & 8, he'll be jumping in a cab following his performance in Don Giovanni at the Met to join us at Broadway's Nightclub in celebration of his new CD, Dolci Napoli, The Neapolitan Songs, featuring new interpretations of classic songs from Italy with his band, Sweet Nectar. Charles captures the spirit of Naples in English and Italian, introducing these songs to new audiences in the same manner as the great Italian-American singers of the last generation, but with a beautiful operatic voice that does them justice. Frank Dain Reprises 'The Magic of Mathis' - Don't Tell Mama
Through December 15, 2012 - New York Singer Frank Dain will reprise The Magic of Mathis in December with two performances at Don’t Tell Mama, Dec. 8th and 15th at 6pm. This show was recently nominated for a Broadway World Award in Best Tribute Show category. The Magic of Mathis brings fresh interpretations to such Johnny Mathis signature tunes as “Chances Are,” “It’s Not for Me to Say,” “Wild Is the Wind,” “Misty” and “The Twelfth of Never. ” Contributing creative arrangements is Dain's frequent collaborator, Musical Director Kathleen Landis, a popular pianist who is missed by many people at the Cafe Pierre, where she entertained audiences for years. The Magic of Mathis will also include some more obscure songs, as well, such as “99 Miles from L.A.,” “Yellow Roses on Her Gown,” “I’ll Be Easy to Find” and “Photograph,” all part of Mathis’s remarkable 56-year career. The show, which ran very successfully at Metropolitan Room in September, has been directed by the Multi-award winning director/entertainer, Lennie Watts. In 1997, Rancid's Tim Armstrong signed them to Hellcat/Epitaph where they recorded two albums with producer Brett Gurewitz (Bad Religion): the genre-defining Willis (SPIN Magazine called it "An equal opportunity dancehall crasher — part '60s keg rock, part 2Tone and part Motown") and Awesome Mix Tape #6 (CMJ noted it for "lacing a Stax shout-out feel with Caribbean rhythms"). |
